Sheffield Based Dance Classes
Why we created Dance & Shine
Dance & Shine was created from a place close to our hearts. Our teacher, Lucy, has grown up alongside her brother, who has Down syndrome, and has seen first-hand the joy, confidence and connection that the right opportunities can bring.
We know that finding inclusive activities can sometimes be challenging, and we wanted to create a space where children with Down syndrome feel welcomed, celebrated and free to express themselves through dance.
Dance & Shine isn't about being the best dancer. It's about building confidence, creating friendships, staying active and most importantly, having fun in a supportive environment where every child can shine.
More than dance. A place to build confidence, friendships and a legacy.

What to Expect
From the moment you arrive, our goal is to make every child feel welcome, comfortable and excited to dance. Every class is designed to be fun, engaging and adapted to meet the needs of the dancers attending.
Suitable for approximately 6–18 years.
We understand that every child develops at their own pace, so if your child falls outside this guideline, please get in touch!
We’re always happy to discuss whether Dance & Shine would be the right fit.
We aim to create a group where every dancer feels welcomed and comfortable.
Saturday 22nd August
12:30-1:30pm
Broomgrove Rd, Broomhall, Sheffield S10 2BP
On arrival head to Hallam Active Gym reception.
We welcome one parent or carer to attend the class alongside their child.
Having a familiar adult present can help children feel settled and confident, particularly during their first few sessions. It also allows parents or carers to provide any support their child may need if they become overwhelmed or require additional assistance during the class.

Hi, I’m Martha, the founder of Dance Legacy and a passionate dance teacher dedicated to creating a welcoming space where everyone can experience the joy of dance. With training across a variety of styles and years of teaching experience, I believe dance is about so much more than learning choreography, it’s about building confidence, creating friendships and helping every dancer reach their full potential.
Dance & Shine is a project I’m incredibly proud to be part of. Together with Lucy, we’re committed to creating an inclusive, supportive environment where every child feels valued, encouraged and free to express themselves through movement.
Lucy Alderson
Dance & Shine Lead
Hi, I’m Lucy! Dance has always been a huge part of my life, and I’m passionate about creating classes where every child feels welcomed, included and encouraged to be themselves.
Dance & Shine is especially close to my heart because my brother has Down syndrome. Growing up alongside him has shown me the importance of creating opportunities where children can feel accepted, build meaningful friendships and simply enjoy being active in a supportive environment.
My goal is to make every class a place where children can have fun, express themselves through dance and celebrate every achievement, big or small. I can’t wait to welcome your family to Dance & Shine and watch every dancer grow in confidence and shine in their own unique way.
DJ Alderson
Dance & Shine Assistant
Hi, I’m DJ! I’m excited to be part of the Dance & Shine team, helping to create a fun, welcoming and supportive environment where every dancer can enjoy themselves and grow in confidence.
I have Down syndrome myself and enjoy supporting other children and young people through activities. I also help with other groups for people with Down syndrome, including my rugby team, where I encourage others to get involved, stay active and have fun.
Recently, I completed the HYROX Fitness Challenge, something I’m incredibly proud of. I hope to inspire others to believe in themselves, try new things and never be afraid to challenge themselves.
I can’t wait to meet everyone and help make Dance & Shine a place where every dancer feels included, supported and proud of what they achieve.
